213 Broadway North, Fargo, ND
Broadway Square, a collaboration between Kilbourne Group, R.D. Offutt Company and the Fargo Park District, has been lauded as “North Dakota’s version of Rockefeller Center.” The civic space in the heart of downtown Fargo welcomed nearly 350,000 unique visitors in its first full year of operations. Fargo Park District provides year-round programming with a unique Fargo flavor, including an ice rink with skate rentals, turf and waterspouts, live musical performances, movie screenings, and events including the Red River Market and annual Downtown Street Fair.
Broadway Square earned the Flint Firestarter Award for a Tourism Development Project. The initiative was celebrated for making the corner of Broadway and 2nd Avenue North in the city’s downtown one of the most visited spots in North Dakota.
What used to be a surface-level parking lot is now a mixed-use, 18-story building and Broadway Square.
The block captured imaginations of people around the world when, in 2010, Kilbourne Group held Downtown Fargo: An Urban-Infill Competition, garnering 160 design entries from 23 countries. Thousands of community members and visitors attended an open house gallery and voted for their favorite design. Nearly every design included a public square.
Co-developers Kilbourne Group and RDO Companies came together to form Block 9 Partners, which acquired the land and constructed the Square. Fargo Parks District operates Broadway Square, programming hundreds of events each year and drawing thousands into the heart of downtown Fargo.
Broadway Square includes a band shell, water spouts, skating rink, green space, and numerous seating options. It has become a favorite downtown hangout for residents and visitors of all ages.
