Downtown Fargo’s Latest Construction Updates

Downtown Fargo’s Latest Construction Updates

KESLER at 624 2nd Avenue North

Kesler broke ground on and construction is in full swing with shoring complete, mass excavation nearing completion and foundation concrete work well underway. Foundation concrete work will extend into this winter. Next up is precast work and wood framing. The Kesler project is scheduled to be complete in the summer of 2022. This h-pile shoring system consists of drilling a 36’’ diameter hole, 45’ deep, centering a 45’ tall h-beam in the center of that hole, and filling the bottom 30’ of that hole with concrete. This happens every 12 feet on center on the north, west, and south side of the project site. Railroad ties are then inserted between the flanges of the h-piles to create our temporary shoring structure. All contractors on the site thus far are based out of the greater Fargo Moorhead area. This includes Industrial Builders (shoring), KPH (earthwork), and All Finish Concrete (concrete). Additionally, our precast concrete is coming from just 20 miles away from TaraCon Precast in Hawley, Minnesota. Kesler is the final phase of a multi-project public-private partnership in downtown Fargo. Read more.

MERCANTILE at 405 Broadway

Phase I of the project, a city-owned 370-stall parking garage constructed by Kilbourne Construction Management, opened on November 2, just in time to make holiday shopping in downtown Fargo even better! Free after five and on weekends, and your first two hours are always free. If you are interested in contract parking in this garage, please visit www.FargoParking.com.

Construction on the Fund’s Mercantile mixed-use development is underway, with completion scheduled for December of 2021. Concrete work on the foundation work is substantially complete and precast erection has started on the south building. Framing wall panels begins in November. This project includes 100 apartments and nearly 17,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Project and leasing information can be found online at MercantileFargo.com.

BLOCK 9 and BROADWAY SQUARE

Construction of Block 9 is nearly complete. Crews are focused on interior fit up of the hotel, restaurant, offices and condos. Local snack favorite Dot’s Pretzels announced its new home in 2,600 square feet of Block 9 office space.

Broadway Square is full of activity with installation of turf, ice sheets, 30 large-caliper trees and other design elements. Broadway Square will be soft-launching its space just in time for the holidays, with a Tree Lighting and Rink Ribbon Skate-Thru on Thursday, December 3 at 5 p.m. Free daily skating and the Skate Shack (offering skate rental, skate sharpening, and concessions) will be available starting December 4. Other winter amenities will become available throughout the month of December including an interactive holiday tree, firepits, Broadway Square merchandise (including masks!), warming igloos, and programmed events.

Broadway Square’s ice rink is nearly ready for skaters.

Mark your calendars for Dec. 5, when Broadway Square will host a Holiday Activation treasure hunt that will include professional holiday photos and selfie opportunities with live reindeer and our new 32′ Holiday tree, skating, smores at the firepits, free cookies and discounted beverages from Third Drop Coffee, a raffle for a $50 DCP giftcard, and wreaths available for purchase from the Boy Scouts.

These are the first official events at Broadway Square – they aim to introduce The Square to the community and the community to The Square in a COVID-responsible manner, so masks are required. More December and early 2021 events will be announced soon on the new FargoBroadwaySquare.Com website. All December events at The Square will be free.

The Landing at 1001 NP

Kilbourne Group has broken ground at 1001 Northern Pacific Avenue in downtown Fargo. The project is dubbed The Landing at 1001 NP, in a nod to the site’s historical roots as a wood mill served by a Northern Pacific rail spur. The project is designed to create a strong welcome to Fargo’s walkable downtown as visitors enter from the 10th Street underpass. Situated on the west edge of downtown, in the burgeoning neighborhood of Wild Terra Cidery, Brew Bird, and the Historic Union (home to Pixeled Brewery and Rough Cut Social), 1001 NP will include:

  • 154 apartment units, with a mix of studio, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedrooms
  • 217 parking stalls, enclosed on-grade, enclosed underground, and surface parking
  • 5,000 square feet of restaurant space on the ground floor, to include a large outdoor patio

Kilbourne Group has partnered with BC Contracting, based in West Fargo, for construction. The building is scheduled to open in the summer of 2022. Project information is online at NPLanding.com.
